WorkSafe Launches Enforcement Campaign

WorkSafe Victoria and the Victorian Government recently put employers on notice following the launch of a new campaign.

More inspectors and more inspections have been promised.

Attorney General and Minister for Workplace Safety, Jill Hennessey, said: ‘WorkSafe inspectors are out in force, cracking down on employers who do the wrong thing – because one death in a workplace is one too many’. This campaign is about reminding employers of their responsibilities, and those who do the wrong thing will be caught and prosecuted’.

WorkSafe Victoria’s Chief Executive, Clare Amies, said: ‘We want to remind employers of their responsibility to keep workers health and safe, and the pain, suffering and heavy legal consequences they face when they don’t’

Troubleshooters Available/Site Safety Audits Victoria conduct onsite safety inspections, while comprehensive, they are strongly targeted on the activities at the coal face rather than the Employer’s internal OH&S management systems.

A detailed report is provided which is confidential and predominantly focused on the safety aspect of operations at the time of inspection. We believe that this approach allows for immediate feedback to your workers on safety matters and in many cases OH&S compliance can be achieved on the spot. The report identifies the risk factors associated with all aspects of the inspection with digital photos highlighting/verifying high risk factors.
